Juan, a 15 year old amateur featherweight from the "Rubber City" Akron, Ohio has been training for 5 and a half years under the watchful eyes of coaches: Omar Dawood Jr, Juan Jones II, and Rocky Cash.  Juan played other sports growing up but when he was introduced to boxing by his father and coach Juan Sr he found his true passion.  He attends Firestone High School on Akron's Westside where he maintains good grades and still manages to train 5 days a week after school.  These training days consist of a newly introduced weight training program on Mon/Fri and competitive sparring sessions mid week in Cleveland and Akron.

Juan, recently placed seventh in the 2009 Nationals tournament, held in Independence, MO where he was 1 of 3 Ohio amateurs to make an appearance.  In May 2009 he was spotlighted by USA Boxing as the "Athlete of the Week," (Click Here).  Today, he continues to train hard and prepare to compete for a spot on the 2012 Olympic Team and represent his country.

Juan, is not only prepared physically when he is tirelessly training, but mentally as well.
"We teach our kids hard work, dedication, and how to use your head inside and outside of the ring.  They learn boxing as well as life lessons in here." - Coach Omar Dawood Jr.

Juan's strong work ethic is shared by his fellow boxers along with his mentors.  Coaches Omar Dawood Jr, Rocky Cash and Juan Jones II all wake up between 4-5am travel to work (as far as Twinsburg, OH), put in a full day's work, and make it back to the gym to mentor & train their young pupils.  Their weekends often consist of loading up a car and traveling all over Ohio to take their boxers to the next amateur boxing event.  There is a strong comradery in the gym that you can feel as soon as you step in the door.  Juan is also joined by brother Javuani "Juvy" Jones, who placed 2nd in the Junior Olympics along with LaQuan Portis.  When asked who are his favorite boxers, Juvy replied, "My brother Juan, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather."
